BACOLOD City – A 22-year-old pregnant woman alleged to be a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily turned herself in to the troopers of the Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion (IB) at Sitio Purok, Barangay Mantiquil, Siaton, Negros Oriental last Wednesday.
According to the 3rd Infantry Division (ID), “Maine” is an alleged finance and logistics officer of Squad 2, South East Front (SEF), Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS).
She joined the armed struggle for two years and nine months before deciding to return to the folds of the law, the Army said.
This development happened a month after two pregnant members of the dismantled SEF, identified as alias “Sarah” and “Aubre,” also surrendered and were rescued by the 11th IB and police in Barangay Tayak in the same town in December 2023.
In a statement, Major General Marion Sison, 3ID commander, said the series of surrenders by both NPA top cadres and members in Negros strongly manifests that the collaborative efforts of various government instrumentalities and the strong support of civil society organizations are effective in resolving the root causes of the insurgency problem.
