BACOLOD City – Two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were believed to be wounded in a clash with the troopers of 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) at Sitio Cambairan, Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental yesterday.
According to a report from the 62nd IB, bloodstains were seen at the encounter site indicating casualties on the enemy side, while some personal belongings were said to be left by the fleeing rebels.
The encounter occurred while the soldiers were validating reports about some NPA rebels allegedly intimidating and extorting residents at the hinterland part of the said village.
Military troopers figured in a 10-minute firefight with at least 10 NPA rebels believed to be members of Central Negros 1 (CN1) Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor (KR-NCBS).
No injuries were reported on the government side.
Last month, three NPA rebels, including a mother and her daughter were killed in a clash with 62nd IB in Barangay Budlasan, Canlaon City, in the said province.
