BACOLOD CITY – The Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) discovered an alleged hideout of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the hinterlands of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday.

Captain Dan Carlo Samoza, 79th IB civil-military operations (CMO) officer, said military troopers took necessary steps to validate the information they received about the alleged NPA presence in the area, leading to the discovery.

Samoza described the site as an ordinary lair that could accommodate 10 to 15 persons. However, he refused to divulge the exact location as military operations are ongoing.

Military troopers recovered a magazine and 30 rounds of live ammunition for an M16 rifle, two hammocks, two cellular phones, two backpacks, three SIM cards, three flash drives, a flashlight, five utility ropes, medical paraphernalia, other personal belongings, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

Samoza suggested that the NPA rebels could be remnants of the Northern Negros Front (NNF), attempting to mobilize areas where they can still recover their mass base.
