BACOLOD City – Military troopers on Wednesday turned over a two-month-old baby boy to the Talisay City Social Welfare and Development Office in Negros Occidental.
The baby was found inside a house at Hacienda Ambulog, Barangay San Fernando where two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were believed to be hiding.
Personnel of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) were conducting security patrol following reports of the alleged presence of NPA in the area when they reportedly sighted two unidentified persons escaping from the house around 2:20AM.
According to the Army, the troopers interviewed the owner of the house who revealed that a certain “Jandy,” the mother of the baby, reportedly left her child with them and fled towards an unknown direction.
The alleged rebels also left their valuables, subversive documents with high intelligence value, medical supplies, three cellular phones, seven phone batteries, a power bank, two cellphone chargers, gas stoves with five butanes, food supplies, and clothing.
Major Jigger Gimeno, City Police Chief, said the two persons were staying there for weeks now after they asked a favor from the house owner considering the baby’s situation. “Naluoy lang ang tag-iya sang balay, amo na ginpa stay sila,” the Police Chief added.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran, 79th IB commander, said he was saddened by the situation of the baby because of a senseless cause.
“Ka Jandy had a choice, but she chose to leave her child and go against the government,” he added.
Alvaran, meanwhile, thanked the support and cooperation of the public that led to this recent discovery.
“Your continuous support by way of relaying information about the presence of these rebels contributes a lot in our fight against insurgency,” he added.
