BACOLOD City – Fifty-one soldiers were commended for demonstrating exemplary actions during the two encounters against the New People’s Army (NPA) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last August 2020.
The medals were conferred by Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), in a ceremony held at the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) headquarters in Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
On Aug 14, military troopers were conducting community security patrols when they engaged in two separate clashes with about 35 armed rebels at Sitio Maluy-a and Sitio Tabago, Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City.
The series of encounters resulted in one casualty on the rebel side, arrest of an alleged rebel, and rescue of two female minors.
Pasaporte lauded the bravery and selfless dedication of the soldiers, who secure and protect the communities in Guihulngan City.
“May this simple recognition inspire you to do more and perform well on your next mission,” Pasaporte said.
He urged them to continue their aggressive efforts without let-up in going after the NPAs.
“Show to them the true grit of the 62nd IB,” he said.
