BACOLOD City – A soldier and two women were dead in separate road accidents in the northern part of Negros Occidental last Monday.

In San Carlos City, Corporal Galelio Alegre, 28, of Calatrava town, was run over by a truck on Parola S. Carmona Street, Barangay 6.

Police Major Ryan Villasario, deputy chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said the victim reportedly had a few drinks with someone when he later fell asleep under the parked truck while waiting for his trip to Cebu.

Villasario said the truck driver did not notice the victim when he drove the vehicle to board a roll-on roll-off vessel (Roro) bound for Cebu. The victim died on the spot due to head injuries.

The 35-year-old truck driver was released from police custody after the lapse of the reglementary detention. Villasario said the two parties have yet to meet for a possible settlement.

In Cadiz City, two friends, who were supposed to join the celebration of the 50th Dinagsa Festival, died after their motorcycle hit a center island along the Access Road in Barangay Cabahug.

Police identified the victims as Judy Ann Rapana, 21, of Barangay Paraiso, and Angel Clarito, 20, of Barangay Makiling, both residents of Sagay City. The victims rammed into a steel post causing them head injuries, according to the police.

Lieutenant Colonel John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said the victims were allegedly speeding on their way to Cadiz.

Batusbatusan said that Rapana was probably not familiar yet with how to control the motorcycle, considering that it was her first time.
