The Province of Guimaras is set to host once again a cycling race as it fully opens its doors to tourists as part of the island’s economic recovery measures from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Around 200 cyclists from all over Western Visayas will circumnavigate the island in the first Governor JC Rahman Nava 120-kilometer Tour de Guimaras Cycling Challenge.
The jump off point is at McArthur’s Wharf at Sto. Rosario in Buenavista town.
The route will go through Barangay Old Poblacion, San Isidro, Pina Intersection, Alaguisoc, then U-turn back to Pina Intersection, turn right to Aguilar, turn left to Gaban, Tinadtaran, San Roque, New Poblacion, Cansilayan, Avila, East Valencia in Buenavista; San Enrique, Igcauyan, Sebario in San Lorenzo; Sebaste, Sabang, San Isidro, Alegria in Sibunag; San Antonio, Igdarapdap, Canhawan, Cabalagnan, Salvacion, Lucmayan, Napandong, Sto. Domingo, Igang in Nueva Valencia; Ravina and San Miguel.
The race will end at the Provincial Capitol where the Top 15 overall finishers will receive cash prizes.
The first placer will get Php 10,000 cash; the second placer will be awarded Php 7,500; the third placer will have Php 5,000 while the 4th-15th placer will receive Php 2,000 each.
All finishers will receive a Finisher’s Medal and Shirt.
The purpose of the activity is to promote health and wellness and to reinforce Guimaras’ campaign to become the bike paradise of the country.
In addition, participants will enjoy the challenge and witness the scenic view, smell the ocean breeze along the coastal line, see the picturesque “windmills” of Guimaras, and traverse the mango orchards along the course and experience the “friendly hills” of the paradise.
The event is partly organized by The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Western Visayas Region Golden Salakot Club.
