As BSKE poll campaign starts, bets told to keep it high level

BACOLOD City – As the campaign period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSEK) officially starts today, October 19, 2023  a top Commission on Elections (Comelec) official here cautioned candidates to keep it “high level.”

“Walang personalan, stick to issues,” Negros Occidental Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria told reporters on Wednesday.

He told candidates running for various positions in the BSKE to instead focus on what they can do for the good of their constituents.

“Just focus on sa kaayuhan mahatag niyo sa barangay keep it at high level of campaign indi lng pag e-personal ang issues,” he stressed.

As to the show cause orders to premature campaigning violators, Ananoria said the number remains at 144.

He also said that Comelec in the province is already prepared for the campaign period.

Ananoria said that they will also start with Operation Baklas to remove illegal campaign materials.

He also reminded candidates to follow Comelec guidelines on postering and other campaign paraphernalia.

Earlier, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also urged candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to avoid resorting to violence during the campaign period.

The campaign period for the BSKE will begin on October 19 and will end on October 28 while election day is October 30, 2023.

“We can expect the campaign period to be heated but verbal tussle lang it does not need to be violent,” Lacson said.
