ASEAN educators gather for British Council’s 2024 TeachingEnglish Online Conference

The ASEAN TeachingEnglish Online Conference returns for another highly anticipated session this year.

Taking place virtually from October 10-30, 2024, the conference offers English teachers across Southeast Asia a unique opportunity to enhance their skills, understand their students better, and connect with fellow educators and well-known international English Language Teaching (ELT) experts.

With over 16 hours of interactive online sessions available free of charge, teachers will gain insights into the latest ELT trends and hear from renowned experts on how to better understand and motivate learners.

This year’s conference, themed “Understanding Our Learners,” will delve into topics such as:

  • Motivation, Behaviour, and Resilience: Strategies on how we can foster a positive learning environment
  • AI and EdTech: Exploring accessibility, equity, and the future of education technology
  • English Language Teaching: Helping learners to deepen their knowledge in the different ELT key areas through subject mastery

Lotus Postrado, British Council Philippines’ Country Director shared, “The conference is a unique platform for cross-regional collaboration providing exchange between ASEAN teachers, teacher educators and leading experts. It provides access to an extensive repository of teaching resources and connects teachers to the British Council’s TeachingEnglish ecosystem.”

The 2024 conference aims to build on the success of last year’s event, which saw the highest participation from the Philippines, with over 6,000 Filipino teachers benefiting from the valuable insights shared on innovative language teaching, curriculum development, teacher agency, diverse learning environments, and the themes of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Conference participants were positively impacted. Philip Zefanya Damanik a teacher educator from Philippines said, “This is very helpful and informative. The use of art and songs as teaching methods enhances students’ creativity, sensory development, and emotional expression.

The session, ‘Integrating Art, Culture, and Creativity into Professional Development,’ by Dr. Lavinia Hirsu and Anh Nguyen Ngoc, explores these concepts in depth.”

The ASEAN TeachingEnglish Online Conference 2024 is completely free and will be held online, making it accessible to educators across the region. For more information, you can visit https://www.britishcouncil.or.th/en/programmes/teach
