BACOLOD City – The Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) reported on Thursday that 40 firearms were surrendered to their Community Support Program (CSP) Sustainment Team in Barangay Carol-an, Ayungon, Negros Oriental last Monday.
Village chief Osias Teves facilitated the surrender of 22 shotguns, six .357-caliber pistols, eight caliber .38 revolvers, three caliber .9mm pistols, and one KG9 .9mm pistol machine gun, according to the Army.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Angelo Guzman, 94th IB commander, the village was previously classified as a Communist New People’s Army (NPA) Terrorist (CNT)-influenced barangay.
In October 2020, the military troopers immersed CSP teams within the barangay to validate a report on the existence of a CNT organized underground politico-military structure.
Then on January 12, 2021, the barangay was declared cleared by the higher headquarters.
Guzman lauded the efforts of the CSP team, and the leadership of Teves.
