BACOLOD CITY – The Kansilay Dancesport Team from Silay City, Negros Occidental bagged several medals in the recently concluded 2nd Magayon Open Dancesport Championship and Philippine Dancesport Federation Inc. Ranking and Point System Competition in Legazpi, Albay.
The team, led by its coach 31-year-old Philip Lui Deocadiz, who also competed, took home two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
Deocadiz and Anthony Arbolante, 34 bagged the gold medals in the 3rd Kind Category.
The duo also won gold medals in the said category in the first year of the competition held last year.
For the Juvenile 2C and Juvenile 2A Latin, Athena Deocadiz, 8 and Lawrence Hermano, 9 clinched the silver and bronze medals in this year’s competition.
The four Negrenses flew to Albay to represent the City of Silay in the said competition held on May 11 and 12.
A total of 326 participants from all over the country joined the two-day competition hosted by the provincial government of Albay.
Deocadiz started dancing at the age of 8. He started competing in 2005. His passion for dancing pushed him to compete and later be recognized not just in the national level, but also in the international scene.
He trains aspiring young and adult dancesport athletes at his dance studio in Silay City, which is adjacent to their small restaurant business.
He believes that competing aims to provide a platform for dancers to express themselves creatively. It also promotes the art of dancesport and inspires others to pursue their passion for dancing.
