A backrider was killed while the driver was injured after their motorcycle rammed into a truck on July 27, 2021 in Pavia, Iloilo.
Gemar Vallejo, 26, a resident of Barangay Quipot, Janiuay, Iloilo succumbed to injuries on different parts of his body.
He died while undergoing treatment at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
While Vallejo did not make it, Rogen Cino, 29, a resident of Barangay Canawilihan, Janiuay, survived the incident but is reportedly in critical condition.
Both Vallejo and Cino are security guards detailed to Green Meadows Subdivision.
Staff Sergeant Christian Lloyd Gumban, Pavia police investigator, said the duo came from Barangay Pagsanga-an, Pavia before the incident.
Reports said the victims were navigating an intersection in Purok 3, Pavia when they collided with a truck carrying mattresses bound for the Uratex warehouse and showroom in Sta. Barbara town.
Gumban said the truck could not be at fault, as it was already in the middle portion of the intersection lane.
Cino’s motorcycle rammed into the truck’s body near the petrol tank.
Gumban said he could not confirm if Vallejo and Cino were drunk.
Both victims did not wear crash helmets.
Truck driver Jomel Ballener, a resident of Barabgay Toog, San Joaquin, Iloilo was taken into police custody.
