EIGHTY-SIX (86) graduates of the Bacolod City College (BCC) passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given last September 2018.
BCC, which is run by the city government, has consistently ranked among the countrys Top 10 in passing percentage and has also produced topnotchers in previous years.
BCC was founded in 1997 by Mayor Evelio Leonardia during his first term as mayor. It has already produced a total of 10,056 graduates from 2000 to 2018.
BCC College of Education department head Dr. Elias Alias said that in the recent LET results, they have 42 passers in Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), 26 in Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English, and 18 BSEd major in Mathematics.
Their BSEd Mathematics has 100 percent passing rate (all 18 takers passed), BSEd English has 81.25 percent (26 of 32 passed), and BEEd62.68 percent (42 of 67 passed).
Alias said the passing rate of BCC elementary education this year was 58.3 percent, while the national passing rate was 20.08 percent. For secondary education, the BCC passing rate was 70.14 percent, while the national passing rate was 48.03 percent.
Moreover, BCC ranked 23rd in the Top 24 Best Performing Schools in the Philippines out of 4,500 colleges and universities offering education courses, Alias added.
According to College Administrator Ma. Johanna Ann Bayoneta, in 2016, Ma. Fatima Ofracio, who graduated cum laude with a BEEd degree, ranked 9th in the LET – Elementary level, among 77,466 examinees, with a general average of 86.40.
Bayoneta also said that aside from Ofracios feat, BCC is also the only college in Negros Occidental that was included in the Top 10 Performing Schools in the 2016 LET, after posting an 81.67 percent passing rate (49 passers out of 60 examinees).
In 2008, Jason Azuelo, who also graduated with a BSEd Math degree, ranked 14th in the LET-Secondary Level, she added.
BCC has its main campus in Barangay Taculing, with extension classrooms in Barangays Sum-ag and Estefania. (PIO)
