Bacolod crimes decrease in 4 months

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported fewer crimes from January to April this year.

Based on the record, 16 incidents were recorded in January, 12 in February, 18 in March, and 16 in April.

For the eight focus crimes, theft topped the list with 25 cases, but these incidents dropped by 20 or 44 percent this year from 45 cases last year.

It was followed by rape with 17 cases, a decrease of 19 or 52.77 percent this year from 36 cases last year.

Seven cases of murder were reported this year, a decrease of 14 or 66 percent from last year’s 21 incidents.

Five cases of physical injury were recorded this year, with a reduction of two or 28.57 percent from seven cases last year.

Three homicide cases were recorded in both years, covering the said period.

For robbery, the BCPO noted a 50 percent from four to six incidents, while two incidents of carnapping of motorcycles were also recorded.

Police Major Nestor Bacuyag, BCPO spokesperson, said they are strengthening the police visibility, border control, and checkpoint operations here to prevent criminalities.

In fact, a man, who allegedly snatched a cellular phone of a female student along 23rd Lacson Street last Monday was immediately arrested by policemen who were deployed in the street near the area.

But the victim refused to press charges against the suspect.

Despite this, the suspect will remain behind bars after police learned that he has an arrest warrant for estafa, which is a bailable offense, according to Police Captain Jonito Pastrana, head of Police Station 2.
