BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez emphasized the need for public orientation to deter crimes such as killings. This statement came after the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported three shooting incidents in the city in recent days.
Aside from enforcement, Benitez highlighted that the public should also understand that “we cannot take the law into our own hands.”
He mentioned that he is waiting for the official reports of these incidents from the authorities and plans to meet with Police Colonel Noel Aliño, BCPO director, to discuss these incidents and measures to prevent similar cases.
Last week, three people, including a minor, were gunned down in separate areas in the city.
The most recent incident occurred last Saturday, when a 12-year-old boy, allegedly linked to the abduction of a five-year-old girl in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, was shot dead in the downtown area under the jurisdiction of Police Station 1.
Additionally, a construction worker and a suspected thief were murdered in Barangays Taculing and 2 last Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
These incidents fall under the jurisdictions of Police Stations 6 and 2.
Aliño has instructed the station commanders to thoroughly investigate these incidents and file cases against the perpetrators.
Despite these incidents, the BCPO considers them isolated cases and assured the public that they have nothing to worry about.
The city police force said that they are on top of the situation.
