BACOLOD CITY – Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez urged the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) to fulfill their promises following the recent signing of their franchise by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“We are expecting them to fulfill their promises,” Benitez said in a press conference when asked for his comments on President Marcos Jr. signing Republic Act 12011, granting NEPC’s legislative franchise.

Benitez recalled that NEPC President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Castro assured lesser power interruptions, lower power rates, and the promotion of renewable energy.

Benitez expressed his impression of NEPC’s commitment, noting, “One thing I like about this company is that from Day One, they have invested, unlike other proponents.”

He said NEPC aims to implement eco-friendly practices and promote renewable energy sources within the city. “By embracing cleaner alternatives and reducing carbon emissions, NEPC strives to contribute to Bacolod’s sustainability goals, fostering a greener future for generations to come,” Benitez added.

With the approval of the NEPC franchise, the transition started on August 1, 2024, pending the issuance of the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the Energy Regulatory Commission for NEPC to officially commence operations.

NEPC has begun demonstrating its commitment to efficient and immediate responses to power supply incidents. Last week, after a car hit an electric post on Burgos Street, causing a power disruption, NEPC dispatched a team to remove the fallen wooden post, transfer all electric connections to a concrete post, and restore power to affected consumers.

Castro assured that their helpline is manned 24/7. “If you complained before that there was no one answering your concerns, this time we assure you, our helpline is on 24/7, and your concerns will be addressed,” Castro emphasized. He pointed out, “Our customer service will be an immediate area that we will make sure consumers feel.”

Castro mentioned that the 24/7 helpline is already set up and integrated with system operations, ensuring immediate handling of consumer trouble calls or concerns.

On Lower Power Rates

Castro noted that NEPC is stepping into existing contracts of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) due to an upcoming Emergency Power Supply Agreement with generators. He said they have negotiated with power generators to lower rates, benefiting consumers.
