BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) disclosed yesterday that all 10 suspected mpox cases in Bacolod and Negros Occidental tested negative.

This means Bacolod City and the province remain mpox-free.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the CHO, said six suspected cases were reported in Bacolod, while four were in the province.

The results were confirmed after the City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit sent specimens to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus.

Tan advised the public to seek early consultation and isolate if they develop unexplained rashes.

The CHO had earlier reactivated its monitoring team to ensure the city’s preparedness and proactive measures against the virus.
