BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) plans to establish three new police stations, adding to its existing 10 stations.

In a media interview following a meeting at the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, BCPO director, said the proposal aligns with a broader plan to support a super city vision for Bacolod.

Coronica noted that the proposed stations would be located in Barangays Banago, Estefania, and Vista Alegre, and that the BCPO would present the proposal to Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez once a feasibility study is complete.

Currently, Barangay Banago is served by Police Station 3, while Barangays Vista Alegre and Estefania are covered by Police Stations 7 and 4, respectively.

The decision to add stations stems from Coronica’s observation of population growth and development in these areas. “This is similar to what we did in Iloilo City, where we added four new police stations,” he said.

Coronica cited the city’s expansion and highlighted the need for additional police stations, as some existing ones serve large areas.

He also mentioned that a highly urbanized city should have a police-to-population ratio of 1 officer per 500 individuals. “Currently, we exceed that ratio, especially considering our floating population of temporary residents, workers, and visitors,” he said.

Each police station requires a minimum of 54 personnel based on the existing staffing pattern, Coronica added.

Coronica also disclosed that Police Station 3, located in Purok Santol, Barangay Mandalagan, will be relocated to the Rockwell area of the same barangay next year to improve public access.

The BCPO is also seeking new locations for stations currently operating in temporary spaces.

During the meeting, Coronica discussed plans to install additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in coordination with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These installations would aid in monitoring flooding and crime, facilitating quick response.

‘Generally Peaceful Undas’

Coronica reported a peaceful observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, with no major incidents recorded.

He attributed the calm to the deployment of 250 BCPO personnel over the weekend, who maintained peace and order through enhanced security measures, crime prevention efforts, and increased police visibility.

The BCPO implemented a comprehensive security plan, deploying personnel strategically and conducting 24-hour monitoring to ensure public safety. Assistance hubs and police visibility points were also set up across 14 cemeteries, making BCPO services easily accessible.

“This outcome reflects the dedication of our officers and the community’s cooperation with safety advisories,” Coronica said.

He extended his gratitude to Bacolod residents and visitors for adhering to safety guidelines and supporting the BCPO’s efforts.
