BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) reported its second dengue-related death this year involving a 42-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environmental Sanitation Division, said the patient had experienced an undocumented fever with abdominal and epigastric pain for a week.
She was admitted to the hospital on March 24 and died on the same day.
Tan said the patient was diagnosed with severe dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Her death followed that of a 64-year-old man from Barangay Alijis in February.
From March 30 to April 5, CHO recorded 301 dengue cases in Bacolod, a 155.1 percent increase from 118 cases during the same period last year.
No deaths were recorded in that period last year.
The 10 barangays with the highest dengue cases were Mansilingan with 26; Estefania and Tangub, 24 each; Taculing, 23; Alijis and Villamonte, 21 each; Mandalagan, 17; Handumanan, 16; Singcang-Airport, 15; and Vista Alegre, 14.
For pediatric cases, 119 were reported in the 1-to-10 age group; 89 in the 11-to-19 age group; and three cases involved infants under one year old.
Of the 211 pediatric cases, 105 were male and 106 were female.
