Bacolod’s ‘Christmas Festival of Lights’ welcomes holiday season

BACOLOD City – To officially kick off the holiday season here, the local government in partnership with STI West Negros University (STI WNU), held the “Christmas Festival of Lights” last Saturday.

Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez led the lights-on ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) after the Parade of Lights.

Seven teams of dancers accompanied by dazzling floats joined the parade and the arena dance competition in the event with a theme “Be A Star This Christmas.”

The Orange Erudites won as champion while the Blue Guardians placed first runner-up and the Yellow Tycoons placed second runner-up.

The competition also featured performances from the Purple Wizards, Green Titans, Red Sentinels, and Pink Vikings.

The top three floats – Red Sentinels, Pink Vikings, and Orange Erudites, respectively – also received awards.

The city government has allotted P1 million, based on the approved ordinance, for this year’s event.

Councilor Em Ang has passed an ordinance seeking the creation of the “Bacolod Festival of Lights” every first Saturday of December.
