BACOLOD City – A Bantay Dagat member in Calatrava, Negros Occidental died after he figured in an accident at the national highway of Barangay Calampisawan Saturday night.
Police identified the fatality as Hercules Diaz, 59, of Barangay Patun-an.
Police Major Rocky Desear, town police chief, said Diaz, who was driving a motorcycle, was tailing a trailer truck loaded with sugarcane when he overtook the vehicle.
However, he hit the left wheel of the truck and he was dragged down the road.
Diaz succumbed to head injuries. His motorcycle was also destroyed.
Desear said there was an initial settlement between the victims family and the truck driver, Arnel Tumabini, 49, of Sagay City.
