BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) strengthened its police response and patrolling after receiving eight brand-new motorcycle bikes worth P4 million from the local government here.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez turned over the motorcycles to Police Colonel Thomas Joseph Martir, BCPO director, in a ceremony held at the Bacolod City Government Center on Friday, Jan. 13.
Also present in the turnover were Councilor Al Victor Espino, chairman of the Committee on Law and Ordinances; Atty. Caesar Distrito, and Barangay Tangub chairman Noli Villarosa.
In a Facebook post, Benitez said these motorcycles will help the police intensify monitoring of crimes, traffic, and road accidents, among others.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, BCPO’s public information officer, said the Kawasaki Versys motorcycle costs P500,000 each.
These were delivered to the city government in December 2022.
Gabana said the additional support on the mobility of the city police force is a big help, especially in going after criminals like motorcycle-riding suspects.
Gabana said this kind of motorcycle is ideal for the said purpose and convenient in case of traffic congestion.
He said it will be distributed to various police stations, the Mobile Patrol Unit, and probably the Traffic Management Unit.
The BCPO has motorcycles but some of them were already defective.
He, however, noted that all police stations here have mobile patrol cars used for visibility patrol and quick police response.
