BACOLOD City – Police Colonel Noel Aliño, acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said on Wednesday that they will conduct operations against motorcycles with open pipes or loud mufflers.
Aliño said they will ask the help of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to implement the said operation following reports regarding noisy motorcycle mufflers in the city.
Aliño said there’s an existing ordinance in the city that regulates noise pollution, targeting motorcycles with noisy mufflers.
“Magkoconcentrate din kami diyan,” he added.
The ordinance mandates the City Legal Office, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, and the Traffic Management Unit to impound noisy motorcycles. Noisy mufflers will be removed, seized, and eventually destroyed.
Meanwhile, 119 confiscated modified mufflers were destroyed in Barangay Zone 12, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on May 23.
According to the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), these mufflers have been causing noise along the roads in the city, contributing to noise pollution.
