BACOLOD CITY – A bet collector was fatally shot following a disagreement over game bets at a feria or funfair in Barangay Guimbala-on, Silay City, Negros Occidental early Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Allan Tamparong, 34, from Binalbagan town, was found lifeless around 2:45 a.m., with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, city police chief, in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, stated that the suspect, identified as Pedrito Penafiel, was involved in a heated argument with Tamparong while playing a game, which escalated quickly. Penafiel then allegedly shot Tamparong and fled the scene.
Authorities are currently investigating whether Penafiel has a prior record of illegal firearm possession.
The shooting occurred amid the local fiesta celebrations, which drew large crowds to the funfair.
