BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – 6 was able to add one more fire sub-station here before the year ends.
This, after the ninth fire sub-station was officially activated in Barangay Alijis here yesterday.
Fire Chief Superintendent Jerry Candido, director of BFP-6 led the ceremony, along with Councilor Psyche Marie “Pao” Sy, Barangay Alijis chairman Deogracias “Donny” De La Vega, and Fire Chief Inspector Stephen Jardeleza, city fire marshal.
In a media interview, Candido said that the Alijis fire sub-station is situated in a strategic area where there are many houses.
“We’re very lucky. With the help of the barangay, we were able to put this up,” he added.
Candido said that in every progress of a place, the BFP should be equipped with preparedness in responding to emergencies.
Candido said the BFP here has a good number of firetrucks, though he noted that it is not ideal, considering the population of the city.
However, despite this, he said that he is thankful to the local government for providing assistance and support to the BFP for some needed equipment.
He said the BFP is trying to procure an area ladder, considering the number of high-rise buildings in the city.
The blessing of the facility was officiated by Fr. Joel E. Roquez.
The activation of fire sub-stations in Western Visayas started in 2021 to act on the complaints of the public regarding immediate fire response.
The eight other fire sub-stations here are Rodriguez Fire Sub-Station in Barangay 16, Lopez Jaena Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Villamonte, Granada Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Granada, Libertad Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Taculing, Pahanocoy Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Pahanocoy, Sum-ag Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Sum-ag, Mansilingan Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Mansilingan, and Mandalagan Fire Sub-Station in Barangay Mandalagan.
During the event, the BFP also launched The Snorkel Magazine and the Commissioning of Mobile Motorpool.
