BACOLOD CITY – Police have urged the local barangay to install a streetlight or lamp post following the death of a 38-year-old man who fell into a canal in Purok Hermilinda, Barangay Mansilingan, on Tuesday.
The victim, identified only as “Jason,” was reportedly on his way home when the accident occurred.
Police Capt. Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 7, said the victim may not have noticed the canal due to the area’s poor lighting.
The incident is believed to have happened past midnight, as concerned citizens discovered the victim’s lifeless body later in the morning.
Santillan said the victim sustained fatal head injuries after hitting the wall of the three-meter-deep canal.
The canal, according to Santillan, lacks safety barricades that could prevent similar accidents.
He urged residents to take proactive steps to improve safety in the area and prevent future incidents.
