BACOLOD City – Forty-seven former mass supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Nalundan, Bindoy, Negros Oriental denounced the rebel group last Wednesday.
They took their oath of allegiance to the government, in the presence of Mayor Ike Amorganda, Vice Mayor Eniego Jabagat, barangay chairman Charlito Damian, Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) Executive Officer Major Orly Brigoli, 94th IB commander 1Lt. Mohiden Hamsa, and 94th IB Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer Captain Oliver Usog.
To show their strong commitment in ending the local communist armed conflict, Amorganda, Jabagat, and Damian burned the NPA flag, along with one of the former mass supporters as a demonstration of denouncing the NPA presence in the said town.
Amorganda thanked the former mass supporters for making the right decision of taking the road to peace.
“Don’t be afraid and trust our government, we will always be here for you,” he said.
According to Brigoli, the activity was a product of the 94IB’s Community Support Program (CSP) Team during their immersion in the said village from February 14 to September 22.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed food packs while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provided livelihood seminars during the said activity.
