A 63-year-old businessman is now behind bars after allegedly shooting his son and a neighbor late on the evening of August 31 in Jordan, Guimaras.
Rodney Perez reportedly shot his 23-year-old son, Joshua, following a heated argument at their home in Sitio Bliss, Barangay San Miguel, Jordan.
Perez also shot 39-year-old Arthur Beniga, who had attempted to pacify the situation.
Beniga, while on board a tricycle, informed a police beat patrol station at the rotonda in Barangay San Miguel about the shooting in Sitio Bliss.
According to reports, Rodney and Joshua argued after the father admonished his son for binge drinking with their laborers.
Beniga tried to diffuse the altercation, but the suspect became irate, took his .45-caliber pistol, and shot both victims.
Joshua sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach, while Beniga suffered an injury to the left side of his abdomen.
Both victims were brought to Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital for treatment and are now in stable condition.
The suspect was immediately arrested and was found in possession of a .45-caliber Armscor pistol (serial number A1109781).
Colonel Rhea Santos, Guimaras police chief, stated that the incident stemmed from Rodney’s repeated warnings to his son not to drink alcohol with their laborers, as it would affect their productivity the following day.
The family is involved in the production of delicacies such as piaya, pastillas, butterscotch, and boat tarts.
Both victims have indicated that they intend to pursue charges against Rodney.
