ROXAS CITY, Capiz—A boat transporting 103 hogs to Roxas City capsized on Wednesday evening, December 25, in the seawaters of Barangay Punta Cogon.

The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. after strong waves struck the boat, which had become stranded in a shallow area. The impact damaged the wooden outrigger, causing the vessel to capsize.

One of the four crew members said the boat captain was unfamiliar with the route to Barangay Banica, where the hogs were to be delivered.

Reports revealed that the boat captain was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

While no injuries were reported among the crew, five of the hogs were butchered after showing signs of weakness. The remaining hogs were accounted for.

The boat, its captain, and the crew members are all from Bohol province.

Authorities are investigating the incident and reminded seafarers of the importance of safety measures, especially during the holiday season.
