The Board of Investments gathered industry leaders and government officials on December 4 to identify priority electronics products for local manufacturing, capitalizing on recent legislative reforms.
The forum aimed to leverage opportunities created by new laws including the Tatak Pinoy Act, CREATE MORE Act, and the New Government Procurement Act, which increased local preference margins from 15% to 25%.
“We would like to gather the views and plans of the local industry to take advantage of these new legislations, making the current environment more conducive to growing the electronics manufacturing sector,” said BOI Industry Development Services Executive Director Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa.
She emphasized the urgency of developing an action plan, noting that the 10-year preference period under the Tatak Pinoy Act is already running.
The semiconductor and electronics industry remains the Philippines’ top merchandise export contributor, positioning it as a crucial sector for economic growth.
“The Philippines is open for business with game-changing economic measures such as the CREATE MORE Act,” said Dr. Dan Lachica, president of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc.
The forum identified electric vehicles, telecommunications including AI, defense, and renewable energy as priority areas for local manufacturing expansion.

The event was part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s National Exporters’ Week, running from December 2 to 6, which promoted sustainable innovation in exports.
Stakeholders agreed to develop an action plan to increase locally manufactured electronics products for both government procurement and export markets.
