The British Council has launched the Connections Through Culture arts grants, a £700,000 (approximately PHP 51.8 million) program aimed at fostering artistic and cultural collaborations between the UK and Asia-Pacific countries, including the Philippines.
The grant program invites Filipino artists and creatives to apply for funding of up to £10,000 (approximately PHP 740,000) for projects that facilitate international collaboration.
Priority may be given to proposals addressing Climate Change and Diversity and Inclusion.
All projects must involve at least one UK-based applicant and one based in the Philippines, with a particular encouragement for artists from traditionally marginalized communities to apply.
“Last year’s projects engaged with diverse communities through multi-artform interventions highlighting how artists respond to the world around them. From creating a climate crisis toolkit for artisan weavers to exploring safer platforms and queer spirituality in alternative urban spaces, the Connections Through Culture arts grants encourage artists to move beyond what is predictable and explore new ways in cross-cultural collaborations,” said Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan, the British Council in the Philippines’ Head of Arts.
Lotus Postrado, Country Director of the British Council in the Philippines, expressed pride in supporting these creative collaborations.
“These grants can spark big ideas and major collaborations. We’re proud to provide this support, keeping the doors open for artists in both countries to make connections and showcase their talents on the international stage. Connections Through Culture grants not only create meaningful artistic exchanges but help to bring greater understanding that will enrich the global creative landscape.”
The British Council has prepared a comprehensive set of resources to support applicants, including an application toolkit, frequently asked questions, and information sessions.
The deadline for applications is September 2, 2024.
