BACOLOD CITY – A 52-year-old businesswoman was fatally shot, and a man was injured during a heated altercation in front of a convenience store in Barangay Zone 2, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as Hydiolyn, a resident of Barangay Daga.

According to Police Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan, head of the Cadiz Police, the incident began when Hydiolyn’s 42-year-old live-in partner confronted a 31-year-old man identified as “John,” a resident of Barangay Zone 1, over a past misunderstanding.

The argument escalated, and the suspect allegedly drew a .45-caliber firearm and shot John, hitting him in the left hip.

Hydiolyn intervened to pacify the situation and shielded John, but the suspect accidentally shot her, hitting her in the head.

A spent bullet from a .45-caliber firearm was recovered at the scene.

Hydiolyn succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while John, who survived the shooting, is expected to be discharged on Friday, December 20.

Batusbatusan said the suspect remains at large as authorities continue their investigation.
