A 16-year-old boy sustained a non-life-threatening injury after being shot on the morning of August 23 in Leganes, Iloilo.

The victim, identified by the alias “Cardo,” is a resident of Barangay MV Hechanova, Leganes. He suffered a graze wound on his shoulder.

According to reports, Cardo and his brother were on their way to work around 6:30 a.m. when they passed by the house of their neighbor, Albert James Jaleco, a 30-year-old butcher.

Upon seeing them, Jaleco allegedly chased the two brothers and fired a gun, hitting the teenage victim.

Cardo was taken to Don Jose Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, for treatment.

Jaleco voluntarily surrendered to the responding police officers and handed over the firearm used in the incident.

Captain John Robles, the Leganes police chief, stated that there had been ongoing tension between the suspect and the victim’s family regarding a right-of-way dispute.

A day prior to the incident, there was a heated confrontation between the two parties. Robles suggested that Jaleco may have harbored ill feelings toward the victims, which led to the shooting.

Jaleco is currently detained, and charges are expected to be filed against him.
