ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 34-year-old butcher was shot dead Tuesday morning by unidentified suspects outside the public market of Ivisan, Capiz.

Hannah Upod said that her family is seeking justice for the death of her brother Richie Upod of Brgy. Ondoy, Ivisan.

Investigation by the Ivisan Municipal Police Station indicated that Richie was unloading pork products from his tricycle at around 5:30 am Tuesday when the suspects approached and peppered him with bullets.

A witness said Richie was able to stand despite his wounds, walked towards his tricycle and sat down.

The witness said he did not see the suspects’ faces.

Richie was taken to the hospital by responding rescue volunteers of Ivisan but the attending physician of Capiz Doctors’ Hospital failed to revive him.

According to Hannah, her brother is a friendly and soft-spoken person.

The victim is the second oldest child in the family and is separated from his first wife. He has a 12-year-old child with his current partner.

Hannah said her brother was trying to say something before he died but it was inaudible.

Police are conducting hot pursuit operations against the four suspects who witnesses said fled on two motorcycles.

Punong barangay Danilo Obrigue of Brgy. Ondoy said the victim has no derogatory record in their place.

But he confirmed that Richie ran into trouble with another person from Brgy. Sta. Cruz also in Ivisan a few months ago.

The case, however, was already settled.
