BACOLOD City – Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said “Taltal sa Cadiz” will return in this year’s Holy Week after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taltal is a play held during Good Friday to relive the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
Escalante said they have made some innovations for the safety and health of the viewers as well as the actors in the play.
He recalled that in one Taltal event years back, the actor who played Jesus Christ actually fainted due to heat exhaustion.
Escalante said the Taltal event is usually held at the Cadiz City Public Plaza.
But to avoid a recurrence of the incident, Escalante said they have decided to hold the Taltal at the Cadiz City Arena where actors and the viewers will be sheltered from the heat of the sun as the area is fully air-conditioned.
He also said that preparations are in full swing.
Escalante said they hired national talents to train their local actors for the event.
“Kadako na sang gasto ta, why not add a little more to train our own [actors], maka learn pa sila,” Escalante said.
He added that everyone is looking forward to this year’s first in-person Taltal, recalling that even residents go to Cadiz as part of their Holy Week vow and practice.
