A potential fight of the year featuring two of the biggest superstars in the sport of boxing finally kicked off its preparations confirmed on May 7, 2024.

According to a report by Mike Coppinger of ESPN, a top executive from Saudi Arabia bared that he is set to arrange a blockbuster fight between Canelo Alvarez in Terence Crawford later this year.

That man, Mr. Turki Alalshikh, is the chairman of the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority, the organization responsible for bringing some of the biggest boxing fights in the Middle East.

However, taking those talents to Saudi Arabia will not be that easy as both camps have yet to meet and discuss the initial terms and conditions.

Also, contracts and proposals for both fighters will have to be polished to meet their expected fight date no later than December before 2024 ends.

Regarding the division that they will be fighting on, it is still undetermined as Alvarez is the current undisputed champion in the super-middleweight while Crawford holds the belts in the welterweight division.

It will be up to Mr. Alalshikh if he can set up a catchweight bout for both fighters. Another option that is being observed is Crawford going up to super-middleweight and try to become an undisputed champion in two weight divisions.

Alvarez is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over Jamie Munguia, another Mexican star who held an undefeated record before falling to the veteran pug.

Meanwhile, Crawford pulled off the biggest win of his career so far after snatching Errol Spence Jr.’s belts during their mega bout last year.

After nearly a year of hiatus, Crawford will return inside the boxing ring and will face Israil Madrimov for the WBA and the WBO super welterweight titles.
