BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government donated a dredger to Cadiz City to help address its flood problem.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. signed a Deed of Donation for a dredger owned by the Provincial Government.

The signing was held at the Governor’s Office on Tuesday and witnessed by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz.

As stated in the conditions, the donated dredger will be exclusively used for flood control purposes to mitigate flood occurrences in the city.

The dredger will also perform maintenance dredging operations in the commercial port and in the adjoining Hitalon River, to clear all the silt deposits that have accumulated due to the constant wave action of the Visayan Sea.

Meanwhile, Lacson and Diaz led the turnover of barangay insurance benefits worth PHP830,000 to beneficiaries from the different districts of Negros Occidental.

The activity was held at the Capitol Social Hall.

The checks were received by the families of tanods, punong barangays, kagawads, and barangay employees, insured under the provincial government’s Barangay Insurance Program for Barangay Tanods and Barangay Officials and Employees.

Lacson expressed his condolences to the families, and said he hopes it could help them ease some financial burden.

The governor also advised them to continue practicing health and safety protocols in their respective communities in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic.

The said insurance program is under the Special Programs and Concerns Division headed by Engr. Jose Maria Amugod. (With a report from Capitol PIO)
