BACOLOD City – A roll on-roll off (RORO) vessel is set to ” rescue” the more than 200 Negrense Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) at Tabuelan port in Cebu City, Thursday.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson ordered the city government of Escalante to facilitate the return of the LSIs to the province.
The municipal government of Tabuelan banned Negros and Iloilo LSIs from boarding any sea vessel leaving their area to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Executive Order No. 7 signed by Tabuelan Mayor Raul T. Gerona stipulated “the banning of ferry and RORO passengers bound for Negros and Iloilo by way of the municipal port of Tabuelan, Cebu.”
Section 1 stated that all outgoing passengers bound for Negros and Iloilo Islands are banned from boarding the ferry and RORO vessel to suppress the spread of the COVID-19.
Diaz said Negrense LSIs have been staying at the Tabuelan port for weeks waiting for RORO vessels plying the Tabuelan- Danao route.
Diaz said that upon arrival at the Danao port, the LSIs will be subjected to RT-PCR test by the Provincial Health Office and placed under quarantine by their respective local government units.
