BACOLOD City – A man surfaced before the police last Monday, to clear his name on the death of a couple who was killed in an accident at Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

Police Major Robert Dejucos, town police chief, said Nikko Rigor, 26, of Barangay 35 here appeared at the police station around 3 p.m., two days after the fatal hit-and-run that happened last October 26.

Dejucos said Rigor’s name was tagged behind the accident after he was identified by the rent-a-car owner as the one who rented the pick-up truck which reportedly hit the couple identified as Junnil Nabua, 32; and wife, Maria Lucil Nabua, 33, both residents of Cebu City.

Dejucos said the couple was on their way home after coming to Bacolod for the MassKara Festival when they figured in the accident.

Rigor denied his involvement, claiming they came from Salvador Benedicto town to drink coffee but he was not riding the pick-up truck when it happened because he was the first to be sent home.

Rigor alleged that his male companion was driving the vehicle and was the one responsible behind the fatal accident, he added.

Dejucos said Rigor told them that they were scared that’s why they opted to surface late. He even brought some of his female friends to testify on his claim. His friends were among the eight passengers of the said vehicle.

However, Dejucos said that they cannot accept Rigor’s claim because as the renter of the vehicle, it is expected that he is also the driver and was supposed to take care of the car.

“Baka alibi niya na lang yun. He should just defend his claim in court because we will still pursue the filing of charges against him,” the town police chief said.
