A man who allegedly failed to return his friend’s car was arrested following a police chase early evening of Nov 2, 2021.

The car pursuit that started late afternoon Tuesday in Pilar, Capiz ended in Balasan, Iloilo.

Members of Pilar Police Station eventually collared Gerry Aldrine Bazar, 33, of Phase 2, Fairville Village in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

Bazar’s arrest came with a price, though.

As Bazar tried to shake off the pursuing police, his car – an MG Luxury sedan (license plate FAJ-9734) – sideswiped a motorcycle at Brgy. Camambugan, Balasan around 5:45 p.m.

The driver, 63-year-old Alejandro Navales, also a resident of the said place, was fatally wounded.

Navales was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival

Police later caught up with Bazar around 6:05 p.m. at Brgy. Tinguian, Balasan.

Bazar’s arrest stemmed from a complaint of his friend that he (Bazar) allegedly failed to return the latter’s car.

The car was later traced via its Global Positioning Satellite tracker in the parking lot of a mall at Brgy. Lawa-an in Roxas City, Capiz.

The owner asked the Roxas City Police Station if he could recover the vehicle.

When the local police went to the area, Bazar drove away.

A flash alarm was sent to nearby police stations to flag down the vehicle until it was spotted in Pilar town.

When police tried to flag down Bazar at the border control base in Brgy. San Nicolas, the suspect allegedly did not stop until he bumped into Navales.

Bazar was already charged for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. He might also be charged for qualified theft for taking off with his friend’s vehicle.
