A road crash along Iloilo Sunset Boulevard claimed the life of a 57-year-old carpenter at noon on March 25.

The victim, identified as alias Rey, a resident of Yulo Drive, Arevalo, Iloilo City, died from multiple injuries and a leg fracture.

He was taken to Western Visayas Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Reports said Rey was riding his MotorStar motorcycle along the boulevard in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, when he was hit by a Toyota Wigo hatchback at an intersection.

The impact threw Rey off his motorcycle and into the car’s windshield.

The Wigo driver, identified as Jaymond, 39, of Florvel Homes, Barangay Buray, Oton, Iloilo, sustained abrasions on both hands and complained of dizziness.

He was brought to Healthway Qualimed Hospital Iloilo and placed under hospital arrest.

Maj. Michael Patosa, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office Traffic Enforcement Unit, said Rey was the third fatality since the boulevard opened on Jan. 25.

As of March 25, a total of 13 vehicular incidents have been recorded in the area.

Six incidents occurred during the last week of January, another six throughout February, and one so far in March.
