As they say, home is where you feel safe.

But not in the case of a 63-year old-carpenter who was gunned down inside his house at Barangay Camambugan, Dingle, Iloilo Sunday evening.

Police identified the victim as Donato Mergenio, 63, who died on the spot due to three injuries on the head, thigh, and abdomen.

Police Major Fernando Punzalan, Jr., Dingle police chief, said at least two suspects, who remain unidentified, were responsible for the shooting.

“We have persons of interest whom we could not divulge yet,” he said.

Personal grudges is eyed as one of the motives in the shooting.

Mergenio was with his wife when somebody knocked on their door and called out his name.

The victim opened their door, only to be greeted with gunfire.

The suspects immediately fled on board a motorcycle.

Punzalan said they cannot pinpoint the exact reason why someone wanted Mergenio dead.

The victim had no police records and was never involved in any misdemeanor in the area.

Police recovered from the crime scene three empty shells of caliber .45 ammunition.
