Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the country’s leading airline, has formalized a partnership with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines to combat food waste and support underprivileged communities nationwide.
The partnership was sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) where Cebu Pacific committed to donating surplus food from its operations to SOS.
The initiative aims to supply essential food resources to social service organizations and vulnerable communities, aligning with the airline’s sustainability and social responsibility goals.
“This collaboration shows our dedication to community care,” said Lei Apostol, Cebu Pacific vice president for Customer Service Operations.
“By partnering with SOS Philippines, we are not only addressing food waste but also making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
Cebu Pacific has a history of philanthropy, having donated food to underserved communities since 2017.
The airline previously partnered with the Pangarap Foundation, which focuses on youth welfare, by providing pastries.
The new collaboration with SOS, a leading non-profit in food rescue, is expected to expand Cebu Pacific’s reach and help even more individuals in need.
“We’re excited to partner with Cebu Pacific,” said Mac Edsel Florendo, Food Rescue Supervisor of SOS Philippines.
“Their support boosts our ability to rescue surplus food and provide it to those in need. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against food waste and hunger.”
Notably, Cebu Pacific is the first and only airline in Southeast Asia to partner with SOS. Through this partnership, the airline aims to raise awareness about the importance of effectively managing surplus food, contributing to global sustainability efforts, and setting a positive example within the aviation industry.
