Children Take Part in Anti-Child Labor Advocacy Run

More than 1,000 participants, mostly children, joined the “Fun Run for a Cause” on Feb. 1, 2025, advocating for the elimination and prevention of child labor. The run started in Barangay Igang and ended at the Municipal Plaza of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.

Organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 6 through its Guimaras Field Office, the event aimed to promote DOLE’s advocacy against child labor and emphasize children’s rights, particularly their access to proper education.

The Municipality of Nueva Valencia fully supported the cause by incorporating the Fun Run into the annual Sadsaran Festival.

Participants were energized by vibrant splashes of festival colors along the route and capped off the event with a lively Zumba session before enjoying simple snacks.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. was inspired by the children’s enthusiasm and encouraged similar activities in other provinces.

“The participation of the children motivated us to continuously intensify our campaign,” Rodriguez said. “They are running for their cause and advocating for the rights of other children trapped in child labor.”
