BACOLOD CITY – Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) will soon open a Volunteerism Office to promote and integrate volunteerism across all its campuses.

This development follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CHMSU and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) on May 24, 2024, at the Talisay Campus Business Center.

Representing the university, Vice President for Academic Affairs Jay Estrellas signed the MOU along with PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James Gawe. The signing was witnessed by Joyalit Tigres, Chief Economic Development Specialist of the Policy Formulation and Planning Division of the National Economic Development Authority Region 6 (NEDA VI).

Joining them were Assistant VPAA Ma. Riza Manalo, Director for Student Affairs and Services Maria Victoria Violanda, and Director for Curriculum and Instructional Material Development Francis Jose Bearneza.

According to the MOU, CHMSU will establish a Volunteerism Office to lead the integration of volunteerism in all departments and monitor and evaluate volunteering initiatives. The university will actively engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni in volunteer activities and assist PNVSCA in promoting volunteerism advocacy.

CHMSU will also conduct research related to volunteerism and build volunteerism statistics. This includes creating and updating a comprehensive database of organizations involved in social development and submitting quarterly statistical reports on volunteer mobilization.

Furthermore, CHMSU will provide technical assistance to mainstream volunteerism in local governance and co-organize capacity development activities with PNVSCA. These activities aim to establish a conducive environment for volunteering among local government units, national government agencies, academia, corporate organizations, and non-profit organizations.

PNVSCA will support CHMSU by providing technical assistance on volunteerism initiatives, offering relevant information and promotional materials, collaborating on volunteering initiatives, and linking the university with International Volunteer Service Organizations (IVSOs) and Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs).
