CHMSU Ranks Second in November 2024 Civil Engineers Exam

BACOLOD CITY – Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) solidified its reputation as one of the nation’s best, ranking second among top-performing schools in the November 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Exam (CELE).

CHMSU achieved a remarkable passing rate of 91.38%, with 53 of its 58 examinees successfully passing the exam.

“We give them challenging problems to hone their critical and analytical thinking skills,” said Engr. Grace Gerona, dean of the College of Engineering, on how CHMSU prepares students for the CELE.

The national passing rate for the exam stood at 37.09%.

While celebrating the second-place ranking, Engr. Gerona acknowledged the challenge of maintaining this level of excellence.

“It means a lot of hard work and more resources to stay relevant and produce graduates who are well-equipped, not just for the licensure exam but also for their professional careers,” she said.

CHMSU was surpassed only by the University of the Philippines-Diliman, which ranked first. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila secured the third spot, rounding out the top three schools with at least 50 examinees and an overall passing rate of 80% or higher.

Addressing the university’s newly licensed civil engineers, Gerona expressed her pride and encouragement.

“To our new CHMSU civil engineers, this is the reward for all your hard work and sacrifices. We are truly happy for you and your family. As you embark on your journey as professionals, we pray for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance to lead you along the way,” she said.

In the previous CELE, CHMSU ranked third with a passing rate of 91.7%.

For those who did not pass, Engr. Gerona offered words of hope.

“This failure is momentary. You, too, will soon acquire that license to practice the profession. Just hold on to your dreams and patiently wait for the Lord’s perfect timing,” she added.
