Cinemalaya 2024 Best Film ‘Tumandok’ screens in Iloilo

The Cinemalaya 2024 Best Film winner Tumandok will have special screenings in Iloilo City on September 19 at Robinsons Jaro Cinema 5, with showings at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The event, announced by Dakila Iloilo, will include a talkback session for film enthusiasts and students, offering insight into the film’s production and challenges.

Cast members from the Ati community in Sitio Kabarangkalan, Barotac Viejo, along with the crew and producers, will be present.

Early bird tickets are available for P250 until September 16, with regular tickets priced at P300 from September 17 to 19. Payments can be made via BPI or GCash.

Co-presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Cinemalaya Foundation, Tumandok tells the story of a young chieftain’s daughter leading her people in defending their ancestral land.

The film features non-professional actors from the Ati community, led by Jenaica Sangher and Felipe Ganancial.

Proceeds from the screenings will help support the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) application for Sitio Kabarangkalan.

The film will also be shown at Cinematheque Center Iloilo on September 21 and in several universities across the city.

In addition to Best Film, Tumandok won the NETPAC award, Best Original Score, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Ganancial.
