CineMapadayon kicks off at UPV

On its maiden year, CineMapadayon led all roads to UP Visayas with a film talk on ‘Cinema for Education’ by Film Scholar Prof. Nick Deocampo of the UP Film Institute.

UPV Cinematheque was filled with students and professionals, as well as filmmakers and filmgoers. It was an intensive lecture by the prolific Deocampo who provided key lessons and takeaways to the participants of the opening event.

UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano welcomed the participants to the festival and representing Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is former Councilor Jay Treñas, himself a film buff who have appeared in films as well.

The featured filmmakers of CineMapadayon were also recognized – representing the different provinces of Western Visayas.

After Prof. Nick Deocampo’s lecture, the filmmakers were also treated to a fellowship night at Balay Sueño to build better rapport and camaraderie among this network of regional filmmakers.

The second day of the festival (October 18) started with a talk by Director Elwood ‘El Maestro’ Perez with the topic The Golden Age of Philippine Cinema. Elwood Perez has always been considered a game-changer in the film industry.

The final film talk today, October 19, will be on “Writing and Directing” to be given by Direk Carlo Catu, known for his extensive filmography at a young age with films streaming across several platforms including Netflix. All these will take place at the UPV Cinematheque.

The screenings will run for the rest of the week, and everyone is welcome to watch at the UPV Cinematheque. You may check the screening schedules by visiting CineMapadayon’s official Facebook Page.

CineMapadayon is hosted by the University of the Philippines Visayas with support from the Iloilo City Government. This is also in cooperation with the UPV Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts and the festival’s official media partner Daily Guardian.
