BACOLOD City – Councilor Al Victor Espino said that the Bacolod City government is requiring all business establishments in the city to install high definition Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to aid law enforcement agencies in the resolution of crimes.

Espino, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Police Matters, Peace and Order said it will hasten the apprehension and identification of suspects as well.

He said this is contained in a resolution dubbed as Comprehensive CCTV Ordinance which has been approved by the Sanggunian Panlungsod on first reading.

Espino further said that they are requiring the installation of high definition CCTV cameras since the quality of footages derived from business establishments have very low quality. Since the technology has evolved, these HD CCTV cameras are now affordable and within the reach of local businessmen.

He also said that they have collated all other previous CCTV ordinances into one since there were ordinances passed covering the barangays, business establishments and the government.

Espino explained that the intent of the ordinance is to come up with a universal specification since the footages taken by the present CCTV cameras installed by business establishments cannot be used by law enforcement agencies in solving crimes because these are blurred or the quality is low definition so they could not identify the perpetrators.

He said that they are following the footsteps of the Department of Interior and Local Government requiring a minimum specification for CCTV cameras and DVR recorders for Bacolod City.
