The Iloilo City government will hold a bloodletting activity today, June 11, 2022 in preparation for the possible surge of dengue cases in the metro.
The activity dubbed as “Dugong Ilonggo, Sugpon sa Kabuhi Mo: An Independence Day Blood Letting Activity” will be held at the 2nd Floor of the Kerr Building beside the Iloilo City Hall at the City Proper district.
Councilor Allan Zaldivar head of the Committee on Health of the Iloilo City Council organized the bloodletting activity as part of the city government’s efforts to prepare for the possible surge of dengue.
According to Zaldivar, the demand for blood supply is high in the metro during dengue outbreak.
In worst cases, the councilor recalled that the city is faced with the challenge on the shortage of blood supply. Hence, there is a need to conduct bloodletting activities in preparation for the spike of dengue cases.
“Kon taas aton dengue cases, usually ang isa gid sa mga problema amo ining ginakulang ang aton supply sang dugo. Ini isa man sa mangin preparasyon naton sa mangin mataas nga demands sa dugo sa ti-on nga pagsaka sang severe dengue cases kag iban pa nga balatian,” he said in a media interview.
Zaldivar admitted that some blood banks in the metro are already experiencing shortage on blood supply.
“Ginakulang na halos sang reserve ang aton mga blood banks , gani kami nagaimbitar sa tanan to join in this noble activity,” he added.
Data from the City Health Office (CHO) revealed that the city logged 76 cases with one fatality from Jan. 1 to June 4, 200. (DG)
